Finance Council

An advisory board to the Pastor formed to confer on parish financial matters and the budgeting process. Finance Council meetings are held on the third Wednesday from September to June at 7:30 PM.

Pastoral Council

A lay advisory board to the Pastor formed to represent the ongoing needs of the parishioners in planning for the future. Pastoral Council meets on the third Monday of each month at 7:30 PM.
(There is a three-year term for the council membership.)

Rev. Donald C. Gannon, S.J., Parish Administrator, is a Brooklyn native. He entered the Society of Jesus in 1963 at the Jesuit Novitiate of St. Andrew-on-Hudson in Poughkeepsie, New York. He studied at Fordham University in the Bronx and Weston School of Theology in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Before his ordination to the priesthood, he taught at St. Peter’s Prep in Jersey City from 1970 to 1972. After ordination in 1976, he served on the staff of St Ignatius Retreat House in Manhasset until 1984. He was then missioned to work with the Jesuit Novices at St Andrew Hall in Syracuse, New York until 1991. After a year’s sabbatical, he served on the staff of Nativity Church on Second Ave in Manhattan from 1992 until November 2006. During that time he was appointed Rector of Xavier High School from 1993 to 1999. After leaving Nativity Church in 2006, he served as superior of the 14th Street Jesuit Community until being assigned to St Anthony’s on August 1, 2011. On June 1, 2017, Fr. Gannon was appointed Parish Administrator of St. Anthony's by Bishop John Barres.

Rev. Vincent Ritchie, S.J. Associate Pastor, was raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. attended Regis High School, entered the Jesuits in 1962 and was ordained a Jesuit priest in June, 1974. He has since served in various ministries including at St. Bernard's and St. Mary's here on Long Island.
This is not the first time Fr. Ritchie has been with us here at St. Anthony's and we welcome him back after many years.

Rev. Daniel A. O'Brien, S.J., Associate Pastor

Fr. James T. Donovan, S.J. Associate Pastor, was born in Brooklyn, New York, and grew up on Long Island. Fr. Donovan’s Catholic education dates back to grammar school at Our Lady of Lourdes School in his hometown of Malverne, New York, followed by Maria Regina Diocesan High School in Uniondale. A graduate of Le Moyne College in Syracuse, New York, Fr. Donovan earned a bachelor’s degree in biology in 1986. After graduation, Fr. Donovan began his teaching career at St. Francis Prep in Fresh Meadows, New York, where he taught biology and chemistry for three years. In 1991, he earned a master’s degree in education from Fordham University in New York and then joined the faculty at Christ the King Regional High School in Middle Village, New York. From 1993 through 2004, Fr. Donovan taught chemistry, biology and earth science at Garden City High School in New York, serving for the last four years of his tenure as chair of the school’s science department while earning a certificate of advanced study in school administration from Hofstra University. In 2004, Fr. Donovan entered the Society of Jesus. Following the novitiate, Fr. Donovan was missioned for philosophy and theology studies at Fordham University, where he also worked part-time in hospital ministry at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx and tutored at Cristo Rey High School in Harlem. For regency, Fr. Donovan taught chemistry and theology at Regis High School in Manhattan. During his years of formation, Fr. Donovan also directed retreats at the Jesuit Retreat Center in Los Altos, California, and completed intensive training in spiritual direction. Ordained a deacon in 2012, he has served at St. Leo’s Church in Oakland, California, and San Quentin State Prison while earning his Master of Divinity degree at the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University in Berkeley, California. His first assignment after ordination was at St. Anthony’s Parish in Oceanside, N.Y. Just prior to coming to Loyola Jesuit Center in 2016, Fr. Donovan was teaching at Xavier High School in New York City.

Deacon James O’Neill was ordained a deacon in 2003 and is also a Third Order Franciscan and an Associate in the "Society of the Atonement" (Graymoor). Deacon O’Neill coordinates the scheduling and training of Eucharistic Ministers and assists in the Baptism Preparation Program. Deacon John O’Connor was ordained a deacon in 2004 and is actively involved in the parish RCIA program with adults and teens. Deacon O’Connor also coordinates the scheduling and training for the altar servers. John recently retired from the Nassau County Sheriff’s Department after more than 20 years of service, and currently serves as the Business Manager at St. Anthony’s. Deacon Mike Monahan
was ordained by Bishop William F. Murphy in May 2011. He and his wife, Doreen, have been married for 24 years and have two sons, Sean Patrick and Kevin. The Monahans have been members of the parish community since moving to Oceanside in 1999, and have been active in a variety of ministries. Mike holds a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Binghamton University, a Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School and a Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies from the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception. He is an Assistant Managing Principal at the global public accounting firm of Grant Thornton., LLP during the day and his current ministries at the parish include Faith and Fitness with Deacon Mike; Baptismal Ministry; Parish Blood Drives; Marriage Ministry with his wife, Doreen and he proudly serves as the Faith Moderator for the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus, Fr. O'Connell Council.

Deacon Richard H. Nichols S.J. grew up in Baltimore. He studied at Loyola High School in Towson, Maryland, and at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, earning a bachelor’s degree in mathematics.  Dcn. Nichols spent several years in the Navy, mostly on nuclear submarine duty in the Pacific Ocean, but also doing Naval Intelligence work in Northern Virginia.  He then began seminary studies for the Archdiocese of Washington at Immaculate Conception Seminary in New Jersey.  As a seminarian, he made the spiritual exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola and then entered the Maryland Province of the Society of Jesus in 2008.  As a Jesuit novice, he taught chemistry and religion at Cheverus High School in Portland, Maine, before being missioned to Saint Louis University, where he earned a master’s degree in philosophy.  At Gonzaga College High School in Washington, D.C., he taught math and served as the chaplain of several sports teams. Missioned next to the Boston College School of Theology and Ministry, he earned a Licentiate in Sacred Theology.

Rose Dillon, our Director of Faith Formation, brings with her fourteen years of experience from the Office of Pastoral Formation where she worked as Coordinator of Spiritual Formation Programs. Her areas of ministry include retreats weekends and workshops where she presented such topics as Discernment, Giftedness, Journaling and Prayer Leadership. While at the Office of Pastoral Formation she worked collaboratively with many offices in the diocese including Stewardship, Worship, Pastoral Care and Catechesis She was part of the first graduating class of the Pastoral Formation Institute and received her certificate in 1991. She completed her studies by entering the Institute's ministry track program and received her certification from the Diocese of Rockville Centre in Spiritual Growth. She holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Pastoral Studies from Empire State College, NY. In addition to her diocesan ministry, she served as Director of the RCIA at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Valley Stream for seven years. Previous to coming to St. Anthony's she was the Director Religious Education at St. Dominic Parish in Oyster Bay for the past seven years.

Daniel Gibbons ,  Director of Music, received his undergraduate degree in Music from Brooklyn College, and a Master of Arts in Theology from the Immaculate Conception Seminary. He oversees the entire parish music program, and directs the adult and children's choirs, as well as playing organ and singing at weekend liturgies, weddings and funerals. Antoinette Wagner-Teague, Parish Outreach Coordinator, has been an active member of the Ministry of Consolation, an adult altar server, and a Eucharistic minister in our parish, as well as a resident of Oceanside for 37 years. She earned a B.A. in psychology and a M.S. in education from Hunter College and a Specialist Diploma in Administration and Supervision from Queens College. Antoinette is bilingual (English- Spanish). She comes to us
with 29 years of experience in the NYC Department of Education as an elementary school teacher and high school guidance/college counselor. To speak with Antoinette, please call 516 764-0048, ext. 2530.

Anna Maria Kay, Education Office Administrative Assistant joined the Office of Faith Formation staff in 2015.
