The mission of RCIA is to evangelize and welcome all who are seeking a relationship with God through the Catholic Church. Through the RCIA process inquirers and catechumens are invited on a journey of faith through Scripture, prayer and catechesis. The parish community accompanies the individual along their faith journey until they are fully prepared for the Sacraments of Initiation.

The RCIA process

Period of Evangelization and Precatechumenate
During this period candidates are invited to reflect and ask questions about the Church and share their faith stories. They are challenged by the gospel to make a decision to continue on this journey.

The “Rite of Welcome” marks the beginning of a more intense period of instruction, Scripture study and prayer in order to help these individuals to respond to God’s call.

The Catechumenate period has different components to help nurture the catechumen’s faith:

• Breaking Open the Word = The catechumens attend the 11:00 AM Sunday liturgy. After the Word is proclaimed the catechumens, accompanied by an RCIA catechist, are dismissed to meet in the Parish Center to further reflect on the Scripture readings.

• Weekly Sessions = Each week the catechumens and candidates come together with members of the RCIA team to learn more about the message of Jesus Christ and the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Period of Purification and Enlightenment
Individuals further prepare throughout Lent by prayerful reflection on the sacraments of initiation. This period is marked by ritual celebrations at Sunday Mass, a day of retreat, and the preparation rites on Holy Saturday.

The celebration of the sacraments of Initiation Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist take place at the Easter Vigil.

Period of Mystagogy
This period follows the Easter season when the newly initiated members continue their catechesis and participation in Sunday liturgy. It is also a time for these individuals to discern how they may use their gifts to serve others and grow in their faith.
